Woken,

Perhaps out of a dream,

I found my room

Sunk in pitch-darkness;

My glances ran away

From the window in terror.

The heart had asked the eyes

To fetch me a pitcher

From the spring of dawn,

But it was still night,

And the demon of darkness

Had not left the road.
