The poem saunters

like those passers by

immune to time, place, space

I desire a relationship with

the poem, something that time

the forget-me-not cannot forget

a poem born out of history's ruminations

a poem bedevilled by lust, anger, war and racism

I love the poem in its many coloured hues

it lends radiance to snow capped mountains;

the fluttering red rose, the limping pariah

the beggar boy in the city's backyard

they all make a poem

which I carry unburdened on my shoulders everyday.
