Margaret Boles
Margaret Boles says of herself:
"I am a married lady from Ireland, my background is medical
- I was a nurse, my father was a doctor, my husband is a pharmacist,
and I am now a qualified assistant - but I've been mostly at home with
the children - We have five children now aged 24 - 12.
I started writing poetry in 1996 after some illnesses, then
joined a writers group. I have always loved reading,
and am very interested in current affairs and biography. - My other
interests include language and travel, and I am fortunate to have travelled
to Africa, Thailand, Burma and U.S.A., as well as Europe and U.K."
"Honeysuckle"
My Grandmother loved
honeysuckle;
I remember being
with her
One day, in her
garden,
As she told me
She loved its smell,
I expect it grew
quite readily
Along hedgerows
and roadsides
In the Wicklow and
Wexford
Of her girlhood;
when
She was widowed
early,
The garden became
one of her special
interests
She loved honeysuckle,
Roses, and shrubs,
Possibly gave some
guidance
To my mother, her
daughter-in-law,
Who was green-fingered
too.
How she admired
one of my plates,
My mother, with
a honeysuckle pattern,
Wouldn't give it
back,
When she finished
the meal I brought her,
She wanted to treasure
Her memories
Of my grandmother,
For she said, my
father
Was beautifully
brought up.
I was so sad yesterday
When one of those
plates was broken,
With the lovely
honeysuckle picture,
I could almost smell
the fragrance,
I always recall
the day
My grandmother told
me
She loved honeysuckle,
Loved its honey-sweetened
smell!
